Sheerwater have a wonderfully tastful, full, and mature set of players and intrumentation. Thor on drums, vibes, and glochenspiels; Jonathan on banjo and guitar and lead vocals; the keyboardist on bass, tamborine, etc; and standup bass.

Femi Kuti and Belle and Sebastian are my favorite bands this time around. Femi seemed to be the exact incarnation of his father, Fela, with his large band, jazz-afrofunk jams, multi-intrument solos, and beautiful dancer/backup singers. I want his band: big horn section, backup singers and all.

I caught a bit of Wooden Wand at Mrs. Bea’s. They were OK, but the sound sucked:

Jason Collett is in Broken Social Scene, a Canadian band. I caught him outside at the Crown and Anchor pub with a band of four others. It was a teriffic experience. Good sound, good lyrics, good harmonies, players and arrangements. Here’s the best recording I’ve got yet via my cell phone:

A neighbor of mine was photographing a rose bush in my yard while my mom and I were planting a Rosemary bush. She has a cool site about her Human Flower Project, which reflects her interests in sociology and flowers. She wrote a post about us and our rose.
